# I stand with Ukraine

What Trump and his stooge did to Zelenskyy was depraved and disgusting.

Everyone already knew that Trump is a narcissist who demands that foreign leaders kiss the ring. What everyone didn’t know—and is abundantly clear now—is that established relationships, allies, treaties mean nothing to him.

# Budapest Memorandum

The USSR had a lot of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Those would have made Ukraine one of the strongest nuclear powers in the world. So the United States, Russia, and the UK signed the Budapest Memorandum at the end of the Cold War. You can read all about it, but the gist is that Russia promised that if Ukraine gave up all it’s nukes, they’d never attack them, and the US and UK promised that if anyone attacked Ukraine we’d defend them.

Why would Ukraine give up it’s most powerful defense? Because at the time, US foreign policy was consistent from administration to administration, and if one president made a foreign policy commitment, it was understood that future presidents would keep it.

Until Trump.

# Resist

Only 31.59% of the voting eligible population of the United States voted for Trump. But that was enough.

The rest of us feel demoralized that the country we love is now effectively the evil empire. We may not be the number 1 villainous nation in the world, but we’re definitely not the good guys. And it hurts. It viscerally hurts.

So if you’re an American who feels like I do, resist. Resist every way we can. With our words, our support, our time, our money. Resist our nation becoming the evil empire.

And stand with Ukraine.
